Volvo CE has acquired certain assets of Canadian forestry machinery manufacturer Technologies Direct, the Sweden-based manufacturer said last week. The assets include some current machinery and all intellectual property rights owned by TD. The transaction covers the rights to dedicated tracked machines for the forestry industry, primarily feller-bunchers and processors/harvesters.
The purchase will strengthen Volvo’s capability in the forestry segment, with a focus on providing ranges of machines suited to specific customer applications. Volvo CE’s CEO Tony Helsham has, in the past, emphasized the company’s intention to “get deeper into the forest” and broaden its range of timber-handling products, through internal development or acquisition. The acquisition enables Volvo to offer specialist machines in more than two-thirds of the product categories in the forestry heavy-equipment industry, making it a major global player in the segment.
