Patriot Crane & Rigging is adding some serious lifting power to its fleet.
The Omaha, Neb.-based company has purchased its first Tadano AC 5.250L-2 all-terrain crane through Tadano distributor RTL Equipment. The 300-U.S.-ton crane gives Patriot a new option for larger and more demanding projects across Nebraska and the Midwest.
For a company that has provided crane and rigging services to the region for more than 14 years, the addition is also about flexibility. The AC 5.250L-2 combines a long main boom with a road-ready configuration, allowing Patriot to offer heavy lifting without giving up the mobility that has been central to its taxi crane operations.
“We’re thrilled to add the Tadano AC 5.250L-2 to our fleet,” said Scott “Sham” Shamburg, owner of Patriot Crane & Rigging. “This crane gives us the lifting capacity, reach, and versatility needed for several larger and more challenging projects in our region.”
A 300-Ton Crane With Plenty of Reach
The AC 5.250L-2 is a five-axle all-terrain crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 300 U.S. tons.
Its seven-section main boom extends to 259 feet, giving operators the reach needed for projects where both lifting capacity and height are critical. Tadano says the crane is suited for applications including urban construction, industrial assembly and the erection of large tower cranes.
That combination gives Patriot a way to pursue larger projects while still using a crane that can travel between jobsites.
Built To Move Between Jobs
For Patriot, the crane's transportation capabilities are just as important as its lifting capacity.
The AC 5.250L-2 can operate as a taxi crane in a 26,500-pound axle-load configuration while carrying equipment needed for the job. Its counterweight system also gives contractors more flexibility when planning transportation, including situations where smaller trucks are needed because of space limitations.
That roadability was a major factor in Patriot's decision to add the crane.
“Combined with its easy roadability between job sites, this was a clear investment in better serving our clients and keeping project timelines on track,” Shamburg said.
Technology Designed for the Jobsite
The new crane also brings technology aimed at helping operators manage complex lifts.
Patriot's AC 5.250L-2 is equipped with Tadano's IC-1 Plus crane control system, which is designed to help operators make the most of the crane's available lifting capacity.
The crane also features Tadano's Surround View system, which uses six cameras to provide operators with additional visibility around the machine.
For large lifts in busy construction or industrial environments, that added information can help operators position the crane and manage the space around it.
A New Option for Midwest Contractors
The purchase expands Patriot's ability to serve customers that need more lifting capacity and reach while maintaining the company's focus on mobile crane service.
RTL Equipment CEO Ben Steege said the crane is a good fit for Patriot's approach to quality and service.
“Tadano cranes really excel in providing a high-quality experience for our customers,” Steege said.
