Trackunit Launches Battery-Powered Tracker for Unpowered Rental Equipment
Key Takeaways
- Fills a visibility gap: Spot S300 tracks unpowered equipment that can be difficult to monitor across job sites.
- Rental fleet benefits: Location data can help rental companies recover equipment at the end of a rental period and improve turnaround times.
- Long battery life: The device offers up to seven years of battery life with replaceable batteries.
Trackunit has released a battery-powered fleet tracking device that connects unpowered equipment to a global network.
The Spot S300 provides fleet owners and construction contractors with added visibility into unpowered equipment that frequently moves across job sites, including trailers, containers, portable heaters, welders and message boards, according to a company press release.
Unpowered equipment has traditionally created a visibility gap for fleet managers because it has not been feasible to wire these assets into the network, leaving them outside of connected fleets.
Spot S300 does not require wiring and can be installed in minutes, with activation and reporting beginning almost immediately.
The new technology builds on its predecessor, Spot 2, using the same wireless installation while adding enhanced reporting frequency, cellular coverage and device intelligence, the press release states.
For connectivity, Spot S300 uses LTE Cat 1 bis, which operates on standard 4G networks worldwide. By default, equipment positions are reported four times per day, with reporting frequency adjustable through the Trackunit Fit app or Trackunit Manager.
Within Trackunit Manager, fleet managers can view Spot S300 devices alongside powered equipment and tools across the job site. The data also feeds into Trackunit IrisX, Trackunit’s operating data platform for construction, where fleet managers can build reports and dashboards tailored to their business operates, according to the press release.
Trackunit’s pre-built IrisX Blueprints can then turn the data into automated tasks, including flagging out-of-contract equipment usage.
The technology can also help rental companies recover equipment more quickly by providing visibility into asset locations when rental periods end. Rather than relying on phone calls to locate equipment for pickup, fleet managers can use the tracking data to identify where assets are, potentially leading to faster turnaround times.
Spot S300 offers up to seven years of battery life, with batteries that can be easily replaced. Device health insights also give teams an opportunity to address low battery levels before the device loses power.
First shipments of Spot S300 are scheduled for November. The product has been available for order since Oct. 1.
