American Rentals, based in Long Beach, Calif., has acquired Highland Equipment Rental in Highland, Calif., a small city in San Bernardino County in Southern California. The transaction was scheduled to be finalized today.

Tony Murray, owner of American Rentals said owner Andy Anderson of Highland was ready to retire.

“The acquisition gives us a chance to serve customers in San Bernardino, Riverside and the whole Inland Empire,” Murray told RER.

Murray said Highland will keep its name for the next few months but eventually change its name to American Rentals.

American has branches in Cypress and Bellflower, and with the Highland facility has more complete coverage of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties.

Highland was started in 1997 by Andy and Linda Anderson. Andy Anderson had worked in the rental industry for 23 years before starting his own company and will retire after a 44-year rental industry career.
