Merlo America Names Piranha Rentals as Authorized Dealer for South Louisiana

Headquartered in Houma, with rental facilities serving Venice, Fourchon and Plaquemine, La., the family-owned equipment rental company supports offshore oil and gas, petrochemical, construction, pipeline, homebuilding and industrial markets.

Merlo America has added Piranha Rentals to its U.S. dealer network, bringing Merlo’s advanced telehandlers, attachments, parts and service support to customers across South Louisiana.

Headquartered in Houma, with rental facilities serving Venice, Fourchon and Plaquemine, La., the family-owned equipment rental company supports offshore oil and gas, petrochemical, construction, pipeline, homebuilding and industrial markets. First founded in 2008, it has since built its reputation on dependable equipment, fast response and 24/7 support.

Its location network reflects the region it serves. Fourchon places the company close to one of the Gulf Coast’s most active offshore energy hubs, while Plaquemine connects Piranha Rentals to petrochemical and plant-building customers near Baton Rouge. As an authorized Merlo America dealer, Piranha Rentals offers sales, rentals, parts and service support across its Louisiana locations.

Supporting South Louisiana’s Toughest Industries

Piranha Rentals was founded by CEO Jimmy Lirette, whose offshore oilfield background helped shape the company’s practical, service-led approach. In markets where downtime can quickly become costly, the business has built its reputation on keeping equipment dependable and customers supported around the clock.

“Our mission has always been to power the oilfield with dependable equipment and no-excuse service,” says Lirette. “When equipment is down, customers need support immediately. That’s why our committed team is available 24/7, with the people and capability in place to respond.”

Across the region, Piranha Rentals supports customers with rental equipment and hands-on technical expertise, helping keep work moving across demanding jobsites. Its understanding of offshore and industrial environments has also shaped a focus on equipment that arrives in the right condition from the start.

“Every machine has to earn our customers’ trust before it leaves the yard,” adds Lirette. “It needs to be clean, tested and ready to work, because that is the standard our customers expect from us. Merlo supports that same standard, giving us a premium product line we can stand behind with confidence.”

Meeting Demand for Safer, More Versatile Equipment

Piranha Rentals first added Merlo telehandlers to its fleet as demand grew for higher-quality lifting and material handling equipment. Today, the company operates 36 Merlo telehandlers across oilfield, construction, industrial and pipeline applications. For the dealership, Merlo’s appeal lies in how far the machines can go beyond traditional lift-and-place work. Built as multi-application platforms, Merlo telehandlers help customers handle a wider range of tasks with one machine, reducing reliance on multiple pieces of equipment.

Designed around operator confidence and productivity, the range combines enclosed cabs, strong visibility, advanced stability systems and intuitive controls. Its portfolio of purpose-built attachments also allows operators to move between tasks with greater efficiency.

That flexibility is already being put to work across the dealership’s customer base. In oilfield, industrial and pipeline applications, customers are using Merlo telehandlers with attachments such as winches and grapple buckets, giving them a practical way to consolidate equipment on site. Smaller models are also creating opportunities with construction and homebuilding customers, where compact size and easy transport are important advantages.

“Customers are realizing these machines can do far more than traditional telehandler work,” says Lirette. “With the right attachments, a Merlo telehandler becomes a multi-purpose platform that can help them take on more work with one unit, instead of bringing in additional equipment for every task.”

A Strategic Dealer Partnership

For Merlo America, the partnership expands local access to equipment and service support in a region where reliability is critical.

“Piranha Rentals brings exactly the kind of market knowledge and service commitment we look for in a dealer partner,” says Cole Renken, general manager at Merlo America. “Their team understands the realities of working in South Louisiana, where uptime, safety and responsive support are essential. With deep customer relationships and a strong presence across key industrial markets, they are well positioned to help Merlo customers get more from every machine.”

The appointment also enables Piranha Rentals to support Merlo customers beyond the rental fleet, adding dedicated sales, parts and service capability backed by Merlo America’s dealer expertise. “Merlo America has made it easy for us to take that next step,” says Lirette. “Their team has gone above and beyond with training, product knowledge and practical support, helping us build the dealership the right way.”
