The A40F articulated hauler from Volvo Construction Equipment received the highest accolade from the largest design competition in the world, the “red dot: best of the best” product design award, selected from a field of thousands of international products. The ‘red dot’ is an internationally recognized quality label for outstanding design achievement. This year, 4,515 products were entered by designers and companies from 58 countries, in 19 categories. Volvo won the competition in category 16 — automobiles, transportation, commercial and water vehicles.

Last year, Volvo’s L220G wheel loader received a red dot product design award for the unit’s fuel-efficient and productive design.

”This award symbolizes the creativity, hard work and innovative spirit we have at Volvo,” said Anders Larsson, executive vice president of Volvo CE’s technology function.

According to Volvo, it invented the world’s first articulated hauler in 1966, which it called “Gravel Charlie.” Its F-Series range of haulers features improvement in design, functionality and maintenance.
