Hewden to Launch New IT System

Caterpillar dealer Hewden, one of the United Kingdom’s largest equipment rental companies, last week renewed a contract with BT to be its fully managed networked IT services provider. The outsourcing deal, worth about £20 million (about U.S. $40 million), will implement a new technology plan for Hewden, introducing a new network to about 100 Hewden locations. The company will move to voice-over Internet Protocol.

Caterpillar dealer Hewden, one of the United Kingdom’s largest equipment rental companies, last week renewed a contract with BT to be its fully managed networked IT services provider. The outsourcing deal, worth about £20 million (about U.S. $40 million), will implement a new technology plan for Hewden, introducing a new network to about 100 Hewden locations. The company will move to voice-over Internet Protocol.

BT will install and manage a new multi-protocol label-switching network, replacing its old green-screen terminals with modern PCs. Sales and mobile working staff will be outfitted with 3G mobile laptops for the first time.
