The U.K.’s largest rental company, Speedy Hire, this week launched its sustainability strategy, One Plan, and challenge suppliers to keep up with its expectations or risk replacement.

The sustainability action plan, which combines new services, supplier incentives and internal initiatives, will enable contractors to reduce carbon emissions, improve health and safety and increase efficiency. Services provided include the Green Options product range, sustainability consultancy, fuel management, energy and carbon reduction and waste assurance services.

Speedy launched One Plan to 100 suppliers at its annual supplier conference last month. Suppliers were asked to join Speedy’s Supplier Excellence Program, under which Speedy would help companies improve their sustainability practices, through a mixture of workshops and onsite reviews.

“At Speedy, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword,” said Andy Connor, supply chain director at Speedy. “We place it at the heart of all we do. That’s why we’re not just going to help our customers improve their own sites; we’re also going to encourage our suppliers to do the same by providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to improve their own businesses and make best practice in these areas a condition of working with us.”

Speedy Hire is based in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, U.K.
