Hertz Equipment Rental has hired Paul Dickard as vice president of communications, a newly created post believed to be a step towards the eventual spinoff of the company from Hertz Global Holdings next year. Dickard previously worked for AECOM, a large construction company as vice president of corporate and external communications.

According to PR Week, Dickard will be expected to build a corporate communications function as HERC becomes a public company. He will also be involved with internal and external communications, government relations, reputation management, branding, marketing and financial communications.

Before joining AECOM, Dickard worked at Ingersoll Rand for 21 years, most recently as director of corporate communications. Recently named HERC CEO Larry Silber spent close to 30 years at Ingersoll Rand.
