Used Equipment Values Increase Slightly in August

Used equipment values increased 0.3 percent for the month of August across the 14 major rental equipment categories covered by the Rouse Value Index of Orderly Liquidation Values, compared to July. However, for the past six months ending Aug. 31, average index values increased 1.6 percent.

August 2013 auction sales of rental and construction equipment dropped 29 percent compared to July values. Rouse recorded 2,987 units that sold at 24 separate auction sales conducted across North America.

June 2013 rental rates increased 0.6 percent compared to May 2013 and have jumped 4.5 percent compared to June 2012 for the rental companies participating in Rouse’s Rental Metrics Benchmark Service.

Equipment categories that fared best on the used market in August were articulating boomlifts at a 2.4-percent hike and scissorlifts with a 1.8-percent rise. For the six-month period, scissorlifts led the way with a 10.8-percent leap, followed by articulating boomlifts, which jumped 8.8 percent, and skid-steer loaders at 6.7 percent.
