Chicago Pneumatic Expands Controlled Bolting Portfolio with Hydraulic Torque Wrenches
High-performance industrial power tools manufacturer Chicago Pneumatic has expanded its controlled bolting portfolio with a new range of hydraulic torque wrenches for high-torque applications. The launch allows customers to source hydraulic, pneumatic, and cordless controlled bolting solutions from a single supplier.
Delivering more than 52,000 foot-pounds of torque with accuracy to within 3 per cent, the range supports controlled and consistent tightening across heavy-duty and critical joints. It includes square-drive torque wrenches for robust tightening and breakout using compatible impact sockets, alongside low-profile cassette wrenches for fasteners in restricted spaces. Together, the two designs give technicians greater control across large flanges, heavy equipment, and difficult-to-access joints.
The square-drive tools feature a dual-swivel rotating head to improve accessibility around surrounding equipment, while an adjustable handle improves ergonomics during use. The retained reaction arm remains secured to the tool during handling and positioning, reducing the risk of dropped components when technicians work at height.
Both tool types operate as part of a closed hydraulic system developed to withstand humidity, dirt, and harsh industrial conditions, supporting reliable performance on site. A common twin-port interface ensures compatibility with other brands’ pumps and hoses, helping operators deploy equipment quickly and maintain uptime. Electric and air-driven pump options accommodate different operating environments and available site infrastructure.
“Reliable controlled bolting starts with choosing the right technology for the joint and working conditions,” said Miguel Almonte, product marketing manager at Chicago Pneumatic. “A high-torque flange in an open area presents a very different challenge to a critical joint with restricted clearance or limited access to power. Our expanded portfolio allows customers to choose hydraulic, pneumatic, or cordless tooling based on those practical requirements, with technical support, calibration, and service available throughout the equipment’s working life.”
Controlled bolt loading
Hydraulic torque wrenches support controlled bolt loading in applications where joint reliability is essential. Applying the specified torque consistently can help reduce the risk of leakage, vibration, and mechanical failure across flanges, pressure vessels, heavy machinery connections, and structural assemblies.
The new range supports maintenance and assembly work across oil and gas, power generation, mining, construction, manufacturing, and other heavy industries. Its addition extends Chicago Pneumatic’s offering from standard assembly to demanding bolting applications requiring greater torque.
Chicago Pneumatic also offers CPLinQ for compatible connected tools. The Bluetooth-enabled application guides operators through tightening tasks and records results, helping improve consistency and reduce errors and rework.
