One of the nation’s leading manufacturers of heavy-duty portable bypass and dewatering pumps is honored for its outstanding culture of well-being for the second year in a row. Thompson Pump and Manufacturing Co. has been named a 2021 Cigna Well-Being Award recipient for its efforts in creating a healthy place to work and do business.

For its commitment to health and wellness, Thompson Pump was honored with top tier award level “Outstanding Culture of Well-Being” in North Florida.

Over the past eight years, Thompson Pump has been focusing more on the health and well-being of its employees, and it improves and adds activities each year with that focus. This year, Thompson Pump’s wellness committee – a team of six cross-functional members who rotate annually – focused on mindfulness and mental health. To help achieve this goal, Thompson Pump created a walking challenge during the first quarter of the year, rewarding everyone who achieved 10,000 steps per day in a week; the second quarter was all about the “Road to Mindfulness,” where everyone was encouraged to complete four videos about the importance of stretching, relaxing and meditating.

During the third quarter everyone was given a copy of the book Who Moved My Cheese? by Dr. Spencer Johnson, and then was asked to answer meaningful questions from the wellness committee. To wrap up the year, Thompson Pump is doing a Fitbit walking challenge of 10,000 steps per day in a week and it also donated $75 for the first 50 Fitbits so people could get them for free or at a big discount to use for the challenge. Thompson Pump has also been putting out fruit for everyone to enjoy on Fridays – Fruit Fridays – and sending out newsletters each month full of healthy tips.

“The health and well-being of everyone who works here is a top priority for us,” said Chris Thompson, president of Thompson Pump and Manufacturing Co. “Happy and healthy employees are vital to our success and the relationship between productive, satisfied teams and business performance.”

“These past couple of years have been extremely difficult for all of us and we want to make sure we are helping everyone through these times,” said Victor Nadeau, human resources director at Thompson Pump and Manufacturing Co. “I’m so proud of the work we’ve done and will continue to find new, engaging ways to provide a healthy working environment for everyone at Thompson Pump.”

Cigna Well-Being Award applicants are evaluated based on the core components of their well-being program, including leadership engagement, company culture, strategy and goals, implementation and employee engagement. All applications are scored and reviewed by a panel of Cigna Health promotion experts.

Thompson Pump and Manufacturing Co., a family-owned company based in Port Orange, Fla., celebrating more than 50 years in business, is a full-service manufacturer and provider of high-quality pumps, pumping equipment and engineering expertise for bypass pumping, dewatering, mining and flood control.
