Case Construction Equipment recently sponsored a weeklong installation of neighborhood gardens throughout Milwaukee, Wis., as part of the Victory Garden Initiative, which resulted in the planting of a record number of new vegetable gardens in the city.

During the May 19-26 Victory Garden Blitz, homeowners, community groups and volunteers installed 278 gardens.

“As part of a Well Workplace, Case recognizes the benefits of creating healthy communities,” said Jim Hasler, vice president, CNH Construction. “Our support for and participation in the Victory Garden Blitz helps promote our own wellness mission while also supporting others in our area with similar goals of growing healthy food, building stronger communities and respecting the environment.”

In addition to CNH’s financial sponsorship of Victory Garden Initiative, Case donated the use of a skid-steer loader for the Blitz. On May 26, 12 employees and family members volunteered to construct and fill gardens at various sites in the Milwaukee area.

“We’d like to acknowledge and thank our sponsor CNH and its Case Construction Equipment division, which donated support for 100 gardens for low-income Milwaukee-area residents,” said Victory Garden Initiative director Gretchen Mead. “Their loan of a Case skid-steer loader, along with the volunteer labor of their employees and families, greatly added to the productivity and success of the Blitz.”

Throughout the project, raised-bed gardens were installed in yards, businesses, schools, churches and community spaces. Materials for each garden were available for a $150 donation or sponsorship.

Victory Garden Initiative is a grassroots movement to grow more food for a nutritious, sustainable food system.
