Caterpillar said it will shut down parts of its operations in Decatur, Ill., for a week in November and all of December in response to decreasing demand, the Peoria Journal Star is reporting. The action closely followed the Peoria, Ill.-base construction equipment manufacturer’s lowering of its expectations for profits in 2015 based on concerns about the slow pace of global economic growth.

The company said the Decatur layoffs were temporary and would not affect all of its Decatur employees.
