Briggs & Stratton Lays Off 114 in Missouri

Engine and lawn-and-garden equipment manufacturer Briggs & Stratton last week announced plans to lay off 114 workers in its Poplar Bluff, Mo., plant, which produces small engines for outdoor power equipment. The company cited weak demand for lawn and garden equipment as the reason.

Engine and lawn-and-garden equipment manufacturer Briggs & Stratton last week announced plans to lay off 114 workers in its Poplar Bluff, Mo., plant, which produces small engines for outdoor power equipment. The company cited weak demand for lawn and garden equipment as the reason.

The Poplar Bluffs plant employs about 1,300 people. Briggs & Stratton said it hopes to begin hiring workers again in the fall.
