JLG Industries was given the Digital Development Award from the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and Access International at the annual International Awards for Powered Access conference, held this year in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The award recognizes a significant innovation in the use of digital technology for rental companies and owners/users of aerial platforms. JLG was honored for its BIM (building information modeling) library, which launched earlier this year and includes the full JLG product line.

“We are delighted to receive this award as it reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing innovations in digital technology to the access industry,” said Guru Bandekar, global vice president, product management & development, JLG Industries. “Advancements in BIM allow for enhanced collaboration among architects, engineers and construction personnel, while delivering greater insights into the entire building lifecycle.”

The major advantage of BIM for rental companies is the ability to identify – in the early stages of construction – the equipment required for the job. Preplanning allows for on-time delivery of machines to avoid delays in construction schedules.

Unlike many equipment manufacturers, JLG’s BIM models are created internally instead of through a third party. Creating its own models gives users access to specifications that look and perform like the actual equipment will on the job. It also allows JLG to be in direct control of equipment revisions to ensure model information is up to date.
