U.K.’s equipment rental leader Speedy Hire this week called on manufacturers to enter eco-friendly products for its “Environmental Award.” Launched last year as part of Speedy’s commitment to sustainability, the award is open to suppliers of all sizes, whether or not they work with Speedy.

The winner will have to demonstrate its product can have a significant positive impact on the environment, for example, by lessening emissions, reducing energy use or helping contractors to minimize waste. The closing date is Aug. 12.

Last year’s winner was Towerlights’ VT-1 Eco light tower, featuring intelligent sensors that automatically switch the lights on and off depending on brightness levels. Tests showed that having 12, VT-1 Eco towers onsite can save up to £4,300 (about U.S. $7,040) per month on average.

Speedy Hire is based in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, U.K.
