Speedy Hire has secured an agreement with Bovis Lend Lease to provide on-site support at the £500-million (about U.S. $815 million) One New Change development in London. Speedy, the U.K.’s largest rental company, will be preferred supplier for a range of tools, equipment and training for the project, which is creating 340,000 square feet of office space and 220,000 square feet of shops, cafes and restaurants in the development, situated next to London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral.
“The logistical and commercial advantages of an onsite facility are clear for a development of this size and location,” said Jonathan Alabaster, senior construction manager for Bovis. “And the service on offer from Speedy was the most comprehensive on the market.”
“The onsite facility will allow us to service all of the development’s equipment needs — including hire, training, repairs and servicing — in the most efficient way,” said David Graham, managing director of UK Hire for Speedy. “Delivery delays as a result of congestion can cause difficulties for large city centre developments such as this. A dedicated facility eliminates these delays and ensures that equipment is always available when it is needed.”
Graham added that Speedy’s fleet of Modec electric vehicles will do all the deliveries, bringing environmental, health and safety benefits.
“We are also supporting Bovis Lend Lease’s commitment to excellent health and safety by providing training … including our award-winning toolbox talks — and weekly tower inspections at the facility.”
Speedy also secured a contract with BT Group PLC to supply mobile generators to support the company’s nationwide network of more than 6,000 telephone exchanges. The agreement will run for one year with an option to extend, and follows a recent award from BT to provide it fuel bowsers and sub pumps.
