Speedy Hire, the U.K.’s largest equipment and tool rental company has made an investment in low-carbon lighting for the winter months as part of its winter campaign. Included in the winter range are Elite Globe lights, which generate 90-percent energy savings per day. A single unit can save more than £100 (about U.S. $157) on electricity costs and more than 900 kilograms of carbon emissions over a year-long period when compared to a standard 500-watt light.
Also included in the lighting range is the VB9, which lowers carbon by minimizing fuel usage by 72 percent, with a 170-liter capacity fuel tank with an average running time of 340 hours, a 435-percent increase compared to traditional tower lights.
Speedy also invested further in direct and indirect diesel heaters. The heaters run on diesel, which is easily obtainable in winter. The units are more cost-effective, saving on average 35 percent on fuel costs compared to LPG models. Other products in Speedy’s winter campaign include dehumidifiers and fuel management services.
“With the onset of winter comes a host of issues for contractors and other businesses alike,” said Andy Connor, supply chain director. “Cold weather and heavy rainfall, combined with shorter daylight hours means equipment like lights, heaters and pumps become essential. However, this additional equipment places extra strain on resources, which is why we’re committed to investing in the most energy-efficient equipment available in the marketplace, and our extensive regional depot network means that this kit is accessibly to every business in the country.”
