Finning International has been appointed the Caterpillar dealer for Northern Ireland effective Aug. 2, and has reached agreement on the acquisition of certain assets of the previous Caterpillar dealership for the country of Northern Ireland outside the United Kingdom. Finning is acquiring the assets from the Administrator for about £3.1 million.

Finning expects the deal to be concluded within days.

“We are pleased to add this neighboring territory to our established U.K. operations,” said Mike Waites, president and CEO of Vancouver, B.C., Canada-based Finning. “We will be able to leverage our existing infrastructure and service expertise to complement our U.K. dealership. Being awarded the dealer territory for Northern Ireland speaks highly of Finning’s relationship with Caterpillar.”

Finning is the world’s largest Caterpillar dealership, operating in Western Canada, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

“As part of this agreement, we acquire an active power systems portfolio, as well as access to opportunities in construction,” said Neil Dickinson, managing director, Finning U.K.

Finning sold its Hewden-branded U.K. equipment rental business for about $171 million in May.

Finning’s western Canada rental business is one of North America’s largest, ranked No. 10 on the RER 100.
