Two consortiums of rental companies will build onsite equipment rental centers on the construction site for London’s 2012 Olympics.

The first group, called Construction Site Solutions includes Speedy Hire, hire-reach specialist Lavendon, BSS Group and Hewden Stuart, a Caterpillar rental group owned by Canada’s Finning. The other center will be run by Ashtead Plant Hire (parent company of Sunbelt Rentals), power specialist Aggreko, DHL, Greenshields JCB, Hilti, HSS Hire, and Screwfix.

The director of construction for the Olympics noted that the onsite groups will significantly reduce equipment transport costs, congestion and emissions from vehicles.
