Cooper Equipment Rentals, Canada’s fastest-growing equipment rental company, has acquired Modern Industrial Rentals, a construction and industrial equipment rental company that services Southern Alberta from its branches in Calgary and Medicine Hat, Alberta. Modern, established in 1978, has built its business through dedication to customer service, offering late-model equipment a professional rental team.

“We are excited about the opportunity to strengthen our business in Western Canada with the addition of Modern Rentals’ experienced team of rental professionals, quality equipment fleet, and strategically located branch facilities,” said Doug Dougherty, president of Cooper Equipment Rentals.

“This acquisition broadens our presence in Western Canada and allows us to bring the Cooper Difference to customers throughout Southern Alberta,” said Cooper CEO Darryl Cooper. “We are pleased to welcome the Modern folks to the Cooper team – we know that their energy and professionalism will further strengthen the impressive team that we have established in the Western Canadian Market.

In July, Cooper acquired Alberta Lifts, which focuses on aerial equipment that services Southern Alberta from its branches in Calgary and Lethbridge. Cooper, headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, entered the Alberta market earlier in 2017 with the acquisition of 4-Way Equipment Rentals.

“This transaction, as a follow-up to the acquisition of Alberta Lift in July 2017, will allow Cooper to leverage its position as the premium aerial equipment supplier in Southern Alberta and bring the full range of equipment rental services to Cooper’s and Modern’s valued customers,” said Justin Wharton, Cooper’s regional manager for Southern Alberta. “I am very excited to be working with the excellent team at Modern Rentals to continue our growth in Western Canada.”

Cooper Equipment Rental was established in 1972. It operates 30 rental locations. In 2013 Cooper received a majority investment from Halifax, N.S.-based SeaFort Capital. The company is No. 35 on the RER 100.
