For the 20th consecutive year, Neff Rental will be the lead sponsor of the Jose A. Perez ALS Golf Classic in April in honor of the company’s late co-founder and to support research for a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Over the last 20 years, the event has raised more than $3.4 million for the ALS Recovery Fund.

About 280 golfers from Neff Rental and more than 90 equipment manufacturers, as well as construction, engineering, legal, financial services and other companies from throughout the nation will tee off on the Trump National Doral Red Tiger and Golden Palm courses at 1 p.m. Saturday April 15. Sponsorships range from $550 for individual golfers to $25,000 for title status.

Neff Rental co-founder Jose Perez, lost his battle with the disease in 2001. The ALS Recovery Fund, which supports research at the University of Miami’s Department of Neurology, where Michael Benatar, MD, PhD, is chief of the Neuromuscular Division and the first incumbent of the Walter Bradley Chair in ALS Research.

“Our support for the Jose A. Perez ALS Golf Classic is reflective of the Neff Rental culture,” said Steve Michaels, Neff’s vice president of fleet operations. “Neff Rental and its employees support the golf classic as an expression of respect for the strength and courage that Jose displayed during the final years of his life, and to help support research to find a cure for ALS.”

Perez co-founded Neff Rental and served as its first president. He was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. More than 30,000 people die from ALS each year, and there is still no cure for the disease.

The ALS Recovery Fund is a non-profit organization committed to creating public awareness, promoting research and education, and raising funds for patient care and research to find a cure.
