Sunbelt Rentals is moving its corporate headquarters from Charlotte, N.C., to Fort Mill, S.C., the company said last week.
Sunbelt signed a 10-year lease for the new facility, a two-story building in the metropolitan Charlotte area. The company had been looking for a new headquarters building for about six months, and the need became more acute after its acquisition of NationsRent last month.
The 62,000-square-foot facility — more than twice the size of its current headquarters — will include a national employee training center. The new office is part of the Gold Hill Commons development, which includes office and light industrial space, apartments, shops, restaurants, a hotel and architecture reminiscent of European villages, according to online reports.
Sunbelt Rentals spokesman Nat Brookhouse told RER the new location is a five-minute drive from the current space, just across the South Carolina border. “We wanted to find a facility in the area to have minimal impact on our employees,” Brookhouse said.
Sunbelt hopes to move into the new office by the end of the year, Brookhouse said. The headquarters staff will increase from about 160 to around 250 with the incorporation of NationsRent staff.
Sunbelt Rentals is No. 4 on the RER 100.
