Volvo Rents has acquired Nelico Equipment Service & Supplies, an equipment rental company with stores in Mills and Rock Springs, Wyo., as well as a contractor supply location in Casper. The acquisition comes one month after Volvo Rents opened its first Wyoming rental center in Cheyenne and puts Volvo Rents in a good position to gain a share of the Wyoming rental market.

Nelico has a branch in Cheyenne that was not part of the transaction.

“Generally, in any market where oil and gas drilling is taking place, we’re seeing an uptick in rentals,” said Mike Crouch, vice president of business development for Volvo Rents, noting Wyoming’s mineral commodities that include coal, natural gas, coalbed methane, crude oil, uranium and trona. “This obviously put us in a very favorable position as we continue to expand our footprint throughout Wyoming.”

Nelico was founded in 1994 by Carl Nelson, who was the company’s only employee at the start. The company now has 30 employees, who will all remain employed by Volvo Rents, the company said. Nelson will remain with the operation and management of the three locations as general manager.

“Volvo Rents is embarking on a significant expansion and I look forward to helping facilitate that growth,” Nelson said.

Volvo Rents, No. 17 on the RER 100, now has more than 100 rental centers in North America.
