Shantui Construction Machinery, China’s largest manufacturers of earthmoving equipment has looked at several Midwestern cities for a site to set up a United States manufacturing operation, the Dayton Daily News reported this week. According to a Dayton, Ohio-based marketing firm Visual Marketing Associates, which represents Shantui, the company hopes to establish a U.S. manufacturing site in the next couple of years.

By making equipment in the U.S., Shantui can eliminate exporting costs, the marketing company said. Dayton is one of the cities Shantui has looked at. Three of the company’s top executives studied for the MBAs at Wright University, where they became familiar with the city.

Visual said U.S. manufacturing is several years away because before being able to manufacture in the U.S., Shantui must be able to meet U.S. emissions standards.
