Volvo Rents has acquired Action Equipment Rental, a three-location construction equipment rental company based in Las Cruces, N.M., with branches in Alamagordo and Silver City, N.M. The acquisition adds to Volvo Rents’ New Mexico portfolio, already having a rental center in Peralta, N.M.

Action Equipment Rental was founded by Joseph Muench in 2005. Muench originally had a management role in A-1 Rental Centers, founded by legendary rentalman the late Hotch Manning, who sold the company to a national chain RentX in the mid-1990s. Muench became a RentX executive and eventually bought the former A-1 branches back from RentX and founded Action, which was named Business of the Year by the Las Cruces, N.M., Chamber of Commerce in 2010.

“Of all the consolidators that approached us over the last couple of years, none of them possessed a culture and core value that lined up with ours,” said Muench. “That is until we were contacted by Volvo Rents.” Muench will remain with Volvo Rents as a consultant.

Gary Stansberry of The Stansberry Firm represented Action Equipment Rental in the transaction.

Volvo Rents has added 49 rental centers during the past 18 months and now has 120 outlets in North America. Based in Shippensburg, N.M., Volvo Rents is No. 21 on the new RER 100.
