H&E Equipment Services is celebrating 50 years in business, having begun with one store in Baton Rouge, La., in 1961. The company now has 67 locations in 24 states and is one of the largest rental companies in North America.
H&E was founded by Tom Engquist and Frank Head as Head & Engquist Equipment. Engquist became sole owner in 1974 and his son, current CEO John Engquist, joined the company in 1978. The company began expanding to other Louisiana cities and then to Arkansas, Texas and the Gulf Coast. In 2002, the company merged with ICM Equipment, based in Salt Lake City, and the company expanded to the West Coast and Intermountain regions.
The company is one of the largest Manitowoc crane dealers in the world and one of the largest Komatsu dealers in the United States.
H&E Equipment Services is No. 11 on the RER 100.
