WESTPORT, Conn. — Ron DeFeo, chairman and CEO of Terex Corp., resigned from United Rentals' board of directors, United announced last month. DeFeo, a director since the company's 1997 inception, said he was resigning to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

“[DeFeo's] knowledge of our industry and various contributions to our board have been greatly appreciated,” said United chairman Brad Jacobs.

The United Rentals board now has 12 members, two-thirds of whom are classified as independent, based on New York Stock Exchange criteria.
