Every year dozens of new products are introduced over the winter at industry shows such as the World of Concrete, the Associated Equipment Distributors and American Rental Association conventions. Here is a sampling of the new products on the horizon.


Pacific Rim Crushers now introduces its complete track-mounted line-up of crushers to the North American market. The company offers a complete line that includes jaws, horizontal impactors (open and closed circuits), vertical shaft impactor (closed circuit) and soon to be introduced cones (open and closed circuits) and screening equipment. All units are fitted with vibrating grizzly feeders or feed hoppers and come in a variety of models and sizes.

Pavement Saws

The new Mercury concrete pavement saws from Sanders Saws & Blades come in five series, all of which feature a laser cut frame with heavy-duty hydrostatic transaxle drive for improved straight-line sawing, panel-mounted one-hand control joystick for maneuverability and operator comfort, and a 12-volt hydraulic raise/lower system for blade control. The saws, available in various power plant options, also include a proprietary self-enclosed blade spindle shaft assembly that uses enclosed oil bath lubrication for extended bearing life and reduced service requirements. All pavement saws come standard with 20-inch blade guards. Optional blade guard sizes are available from 16 to 48 inches depending on the model.

Fontaine Trailer has begun manufacturing Curtainside trailers. The trailers provide cargo the protection of a van trailer along with the ease of loading from the side rather than from the rear of the trailer. Trailer dimensions include a 7-inch neck depth and 48-inch king pin height with 55-inch front deck height, rear deck height of 53 inches, inside height of 105 3/4 inches and side opening of 102 9/16 inches.

The Yazoo/Kees Mega-Max is a large frame, mid-mount ZTH designed for the most demanding professional users. It is available with three engine options from Daihatsu — a 27-hp diesel, 34-hp turbo gas or 34-hp turbo diesel. The cutter deck is constructed with 7- and 10-gauge steel and is available in either 61- or 72-inch widths. Six adjustable anti-scalp rollers provide optimum turf protection on the most uneven terrain.

Rotary Hammer

Makita launches 15/16-inch rotary hammer, model HR2450F, with high-output LED lights that improve the operator's view of the work piece. It features a 6.7 amp motor and weighs only 5.3 pounds. A 3-mode selector switch for hammering, hammering with rotation and rotation only provides versatility for use in a variety of materials. The hammer joins the new eLuminate family of power tools equipped with LED lights.

Honda Power Equipment's new FRC800 rear-tine tiller is powered by Honda's commercial grade GX240 8-hp engine. The product's tine housing and debris flap thickness has been increased by 25 percent over the FR800, and it receives a heavy-duty shift lever mechanism mated to an all-new heavy-duty transmission. A front bumper is used to protect the engine, starter and belt cover to resist the wear-and-tear that comes from frequent trailer loading and unloading. Ease of use is enhanced through a simplified tine engagement lockout system and a low center of gravity.

Hydraulic Excavator

Caterpillar introduces the 314C CR hydraulic excavator with a compact radius design that makes the machine ideal for urban contractors and others who work in space-restricted applications. The new machine weighs as much as 32,590 pounds, depending on how it is equipped and produces 90 net hp. It accommodates two stick sizes, five bucket options, three blade widths and a variety of work tools. Powered by a 4-cylinder turbocharged Cat 3064T diesel engine, the product has a tail swing radius of 4 feet, 10 inches, making it easy to operate against walls and in other tight spaces.

Woods Equipment introduces a new line of attachments engineered specifically for sub-compact tractors with engines up to 25 hp. The Estate Series includes a 48-inch box scraper, 60-inch landscape rake and 60-inch rear blade. These pint-sized but powerful attachments are designed to fit smaller tractors with category 1 or 0 three-point hitches.

Pressure Washer

Gulf Engine has added a new model, KD5005GH12V, to the Gulf-Tek line of premium diesel engine powered hot water pressure washers. The unit features a 3-cylinder Kubota diesel engine rated at 24 hp and direct drive gear reduction triplex pump. It is designed in form and function to meet heavy-duty commercial, marine and chemical plant cleaning applications. The unit features belt free operation to reduce vibration caused by belt whip, and the skid design ensures protection to all components, which makes it easy to load/unload for transportation.

Power Rake

The PR22 from Bluebird features a modular platform that can be configured to a lawn comber, seeder or power rake with rear catcher bag to collect thatch. The bagger unit has rubber flaps added to the shaft to increase bagging efficiency. The unit offers a choice of an easily interchangeable flail blade for removing matted thatch, Delta slicing blade for thinning running stem grasses, or spring tine reels for removing thatch from well-manicured lawns. The spring tines are mounted differently than on previous models to make the tines last longer at higher rpms.

Rental computer supplier Solutions by Computer completed a program of major enhancements to its Web site, a private virtual community for system users. Searchable documentation, expanded discussion boards and a resource library covering more than 1,000 topics are some of the enhanced features now available online.

Baldor Electric announces its industrial standby generators ready for immediate delivery. These full-featured units are designed for commercial and rental applications where portable power is required. The generators are available in trailer-mounted or skid configurations. Also, the products feature flick of the switch single and three phase voltages to satisfy most requirements.

The latest addition to L.B. White's line of construction heaters, the Premier, offers ducted heating capabilities with versatile indoor or outdoor placement. It is designed for large construction applications that require directed heat as well as small or hard-to-reach areas.

The WL12000HE from Winco Power Systems runs on a Honda 20-hp engine. Electric start and low oil protection are standard features of the Honda engine and the large 6-gallon fuel tank allows the product to run for up to 6 3/4 hours before refueling. The hour meter allows users the ability to keep track of service intervals and time used on the jobsite. Multiple receptacles offer the right configuration for nearly any job, and the all-terrain wheel kit and lifting eye come as standard features.

Piercing Tool

The new line Big Shot piercing tools from Footage Tools feature durable barrels, having been machined from a solid billet of high-grade chromoly steel (not a tube). A phosphate coating on the piston minimizes corrosion, assisting in longer service life. Other features include a relieved midsection barrel for quicker travel through the soil, a flexible air tube assembly ensuring trajectory will not be compromised by a shift in the air hose, replaceable nose pin and many accessories including cutting heads, expanders and extensions.
