Conserving fuel doesn't have to be a chore, and salvaging each drop can equal gallons in savings. To get the most out of your fuel dollars, try these simple maintenance tips:
- Top-off vehicle fuel tanks nightly to reduce the air volume inside, thereby decreasing the possibility of condensation in the tank.
- Drain the sediment bowl in fuel/water separators regularly to keep water out of the injectors.
- Use high-quality filters and fuel/water separators on storage tanks.
- Use filter-restriction gauges to determine the optimum time to change air filters.
- On rubber tire vehicles check tire inflation with a calibrated gauge at least weekly to maintain optimum pressure.
- Replace bias-ply tires with radials (radial tires deliver up to 8 percent better fuel economy.)
