BEAVER DAM, Wis. - Mayville Engineering Corp. is selling the rights to its aerial work platform product line in North America.

MEC will focus on contract manufacturing work, which includes weldments, assemblies and stamping for John Deere, Hewlett-Packard and other major companies.

"We have made some very large commitments in the contract division," said Ken Zimmer, MEC's technical director, aerial work platform division. "We need some of the resources from the aerial division to help us fulfill those requirements."

Zimmer acknowledged that rental industry consolidation contributed to MEC's decision. "Many of the independent dealers we catered toward were acquired by national rental companies," he said.

MEC said it will continue to service its products in the field, including parts and technical support, on an ongoing basis. The company will also continue limited production of lifts next year to fulfill an agreement with Manitou until the French manufacturer has reached full capacity in Europe.
