Snorkel's SL Series Speed Level is a large-deck platform lifted by a sigma arm that provides rough-terrain capabilities without the need for outriggers. Snorkel developed the concept of leveling the lift mechanism in both directions, allowing for operation on slopes without having to deploy stabilizers.

“The Speed Level uniquely works like a diesel scissorlift, but without the need for stabilizers,” says David Smith, president, Snorkel North America. “Ask any construction worker who uses rough-terrain scissorlifts and they'll tell you that deploying and retracting the stabilizers every time you want to move is a time-consuming drag.”

Available in two models, the SL26SL has a 10-meter working height and the SL30SL has an 11-meter working height. Recently redesigned, the SL Series now has independent drive and lift manifolds, while flow dividers ensure that precise power is delivered to each wheel as needed. As a result, the machine can climb gradients of up to 50 percent. The Speed Level Plus also offers three drive modes: hi-torque for true four-wheel drive; medium speed, provided by rear-wheel drive in parallel; and high speed, achieved with rear drive in series. For applications when the unit needs to be frequently moved around the jobsite, the Speed Level is quicker and more efficient than using an RT scissorlift because the user can operate the machine when elevated on a uniform, firm slope, which is not possible in a standard scissorlift.

“The Speed Level is a specialist product, so it is more suited to the rental model than outright ownership in most construction applications,” says Smith. “It is built to Snorkel specifications so it is designed to have a long, reliable life and deliver very low total ownership costs. The Speed Level is a very simple machine, so there are no barriers to entry. It's designed to be easy to use and also very easy to troubleshoot.”
