Hilti's newly released DD 120 Diamond Coring System is designed for coring in close corners and small areas. Self-contained as a complete system in one unit, the DD 120 is able to core up to six, 4-inch diameter holes in reinforced concrete. It features an intelligent steering display at the top and a compact anchor base plate at the bottom. The drill stand, carriage and drive are integrated to reduce set-up time.
“The DD 120 is small, lightweight and compact, and the unit fits in a kit box with one or two bits and all the accessories,” says Frank Hieronymus, senior diamond product manager. “All you need is a 15-amp power circuit and a water supply. Plus, it's simple to operate — even for someone with five minutes of training. Everything is in one box so it's easy to store, easy to carry, protected, and there is nothing to lose or forget.”
Unlike some coring tools that offer only one speed, the power for the DD 120 comes from a 1,600W motor with two speeds. The first gear speed is 650 rpm and the second gear speed is 1,380 rpm, giving the operator the ability to match the speed to the application and bit diameter.
Easy to operate, the DD 120 helps to optimize power control and drilling performance with an LED light that guides the operator. When the light is yellow, the operator will know to press harder. When the light is red, the operator will know to reduce pressure. A green light indicates that the optimal drilling pressure and speed are being achieved. This power control feature increases the service life of the bit and helps less-experienced operators as they learn the tool. In addition, the DD 120 has built-in GFCI for power protection and is CSA approved.
