The John Deere 844J 7-yard wheel loader is designed to be durable and deliver productivity. The machine is powered by an electronically controlled 12.5-liter John Deere PowerTech diesel engine that features wet-sleeve cylinder liners for engine cooling and has the highest peak power and highest peak torque in its class for excellent low-speed response, according to Dave O'Keeffe, product marketing manager for John Deere.
A key feature of the 844J is its Deere Powershift transmission, which provides smart shift technology. The transmission is electronically controlled and continuously senses speeds and loads, and, based on the inputs, the transmission hydraulically adjusts clutch pressures accordingly to deliver smooth directional and speed shifts without any delay for shift quality. The work station is designed to deliver convenience and smooth control.
A solid state electrical distribution system features a sealed-switch module for the operator interface that delivers durability for the life of the machine. The monitor is fully programmable to allow the operator to view operating information, customize machine functions to the application, and display troubleshooting information and diagnostic codes.
The 844J also features excavator-style hydraulics for responsive power. The hydraulic flow to the boom and bucket provide for faster cycle times at low engine speeds. The fingertip controls are designed to be comfortable and easy to use, and an electronic joystick with FNR controls in the left armrest is available.
“Joystick steering in the left armrest provides the most comfortable steering position, with the operator's arm resting on a full-contact armrest,” O'Keeffe says.
