HSS Hire Service Group this week posted a 21-percent increase in its fiscal first quarter, ended April 2. However, HSS officials warned that the second quarter might not fare as well because of a late Easter, the activities of the Royal Wedding and the expiration of a contract with Network Rail.

Revenues rose 12 percent for the quarter and profits for the three months totaled £11.2 million (about U.S. $18.3 million). The company increased its investment in its rental fleet, spending about £2.1 million more than in the previous year’s first quarter.

HSS Hire, based in London, has more than 230 rental locations in the U.K.
