Key Innovation: The oscillation joint design provides reliable stability on uneven surfaces.

The Rammax Viper trench roller from Multiquip features a unique articulation and oscillation design that provides reliable stability on uneven surfaces and provides easy mobility in tight environments. Its patented Straight Compaction Technology is designed to supply equal amplitude to all four drums. The Z-Shape frame design on the Rammax Viper is a patented offset drum configuration that ensures effective compaction. The internal drum scrapers on the trench roller eliminate build-up, allowing drums to turn freely in tough conditions. Powered by a Lombardini diesel engine, the Rammax Viper delivers up to 2,460 vibrations per minute and reaches centrifugal forces up to 15,543 pounds. Other highlights include an exclusive Rammax-designed radiator for low-water temperatures, an easy access exciter system for fast and efficient maintenance and dual receiving eyes position to eliminate blind spots. Status diagnostic system for quick troubleshooting and dual-controls cables and infrared are also available.

RER: What makes the Rammax Viper trench roller innovative?

Torsten Erbel, director of product management, Multiquip: The Rammax Viper hosts a unique maintenance-free Oscillation/Articulating joint for optimal drum soil contact and reliable stability on uneven surfaces. The Rammax Viper is also equipped with numerous patented features such as; Straight Compaction Technology (SCT), Z-frame design and internal drum scrapers. These are innovative, industry first designs that challenge previous designs in trench rollers.

RER: What are the benefits of the Rammax Viper trench roller?

Erbel: The SCT provides equal amplitude to all four drums and delivers an even distribution of compaction force by positioning eccentrics above the drum perpendicular to drum rotation. This also provides for easy maintenance access. The Z-frame design eliminates the traditional between the drum spacing and un-compacted area while the internal drum scrapers prevent dirt build-up between drums.

RER: How does the unit make jobs more effective and efficient for rental professionals and their contractor customers?

Erbel: With the aforementioned features, maximum compaction force is applied with every pass. Efficient compaction will require fewer compaction passes and accelerates the contractors work. All steel construction of the roller guarantees solid withstanding of the rough contractors treatments these machines get and will limit the amount of repairs and touch ups required. This maximizes the ROI for the Rental professional.

RER: Describe the development process of the Rammax Viper trench roller. Where did the idea come from and who was responsible for its engineering and development?

The trench roller development was conducted by the Engineering staff of Rammax Maschinenbau in Germany. The idea of a “Z-frame” design was discussed several years ago, but the VIPER provided the ideal platform for implementation. Due to patent restrictions the engineering staff was challenge to develop an alternative design to place the vibratory assembly in a location other than the drum. This lead to the innovative, patented SCT design. It is unique in the industry and provided the Engineers with some additional benefits not initially considered. The Viper is an example of skillful German Engineering building on the tradition of Rammax innovations as the inventor of trench roller comapaction technology some 35 years ago.
