Genie featured four examples of its newest electric or hybrid MEWPs, including a scissor lift with Genie Lithium-Ion batteries, at the 2023 ARA Show.

The company also featured the newest telescopic handler in the Genie GTH telehandler family.

“For more than 55 years, the Genie team has been focused on delivering quality solutions that meet jobsite and equipment owners’ needs. That is reflected in our product lineup, which is already more than 70-percent electrified, and growing,” Simon Meester, Genie president said. “I’m excited to have an opportunity to show customers how our newest models can offer a lower total cost of ownership, a strong ROI, and, in many cases, lower jobsite emissions too.”

Genie GS-1932 E-Drive Lithium-Ion Scissor Lifts Reduce Maintenance Needs

Battery maintenance and replacement is one of the biggest ongoing costs to scissor lift owners. Genie’s GS-1932 E-Drive Lithium-Ion scissor lift is equipped with a zero-maintenance battery that has been specifically designed for use in MEWPs and rigorously tested for longevity and reliability, even in extreme temperature environments. Certified by the independent Underwriters Laboratory against fire, electric shock and explosion, Genie Lithium-Ion batteries come with a five-year warranty and an expected lifespan of 10 years.

The batteries can be charged in four hours, 33 percent faster than FLA batteries, making easier to work a full shift on a single charge. Optimized for extreme heat (120° F/ 49° C) and cold (-20° F/-29° C) weather performance, Genie E-Drive Lithium-Ion makes are designed to deliver the same performance regardless of the temperature.

Since their introduction in 2020, Genie E-Drive scissor lifts have proven, real-world performance, including 25-percent gradeability and 14° breakover angle. E-Drive motors are brushless and fully sealed against moisture and water for maintenance-free longevity. Potential for hydraulic leaks is drastically reduced because E-Drive has 70-percent fewer hydraulic hoses and fittings. The GS-1932 has a 25 foot 3 inch working height and 500 pound (227 kg) platform capacity. At 2 feet 8 inches (.81 m) wide, the unit can pass through standard single doors.

GS-1932m Micro Scissors Do-it-All Machines

The Genie GS-1932m micro scissor is an example of how Genie’s approach to low-level access is evolving. Introduced in 2021, these micro scissors feature Genie’s fully sealed and maintenance-free AC electric drive.

The stowed height of the GS-1932m enables it to fit through a doorway with standard fixed guardrails, without requiring them to be folded. Although Genie’s micro scissors meet the needs of space-restricted and low-floor-loading applications, they also are a good choice for jobs where you would use a standard-sized scissor lift. With a 500-pound (227 kg) capacity, the GS-1932m is rated for two workers and has a 32 inch (.81 m) wide platform and 2-foot (.60 m) extension deck.

Electric and Hybrid Solutions Contribute to Rental ROIC

Modern jobsites demand rugged, reliable, high-performance equipment that is also quiet, clean, and efficient. Genie showed two products that can work indoors and outdoors, including on rough terrain: The hybrid S-60 FE telescopic boom, new to the market in 2021, is the industry’s first hybrid telescopic boom and the highly popular electric Z-45 DC articulating boom has unrestricted range of motion.

With two modes of operation (electric or hybrid), FE boom lifts are versatile, sustainable solutions that adapt to indoor and outdoor applications, even where on-site electric power is not available. In electric mode, FE booms can work a full shift on a single battery charge; in hybrid mode they can run for more than a week on a single tank of diesel fuel.

On both the FE and DC models, AC drive motors provide similar torque as hydraulic drive motors while using 30 to 40 percent less energy. The IP67-sealed AC drive motors also significantly prolong battery charge while reducing operating and maintenance costs. Four-wheel drive plus electronic traction management and active oscillating axles enable 4 mph (6.4 km/h) drive speed and 45% gradeability in rough terrain.

The S-60 FE has a maximum working height of 67 feet 2 inches (20.60 m)  and a maximum outreach of 40 feet 6 inches (12.30 m). Unrestricted platform capacity of 660 pounds (300 kg) on a 6 foot (1.83 m) jib delivers a 130-degree working range. The Z-45 DC features a maximum working height of 51 feet 8 inches (15.92 m), a maximum horizontal outreach of 22 feet 9 inches (6.94 m), and a maximum up-and-over reach of 24 feet 7 inches (7.50 m). The 5-foot (1.52 m) articulating jib with a 135° vertical rotation provides the ability to position workers accurately in a platform with 660-pound (300 kg) capacity.

MEWPs Solve Specific Application Challenges

Genie also featured solutions for extreme terrain, low-level access, and light material handling.

The Genie S-80 J TraX is the first tracked boom in its height class. It offers terrainability with lower contact pressure reduced damage in sensitive ground conditions. Genie’s patented track design has four independent tracks that swivel vertically up to 20° to create a smooth ride in rough conditions.

The Genie GR-20 is a maneuverable, vertical mast in a chassis that is more compact and lighter weight than many other products with similar platform heights. Features include zero inside turning radius, 30-percent gradeability, a spring-applied, hydraulically released brake system and 10 in non-marking solid rubber tires.

Genie AWP aerial work platforms, such as the AWP-20, are cost-effective push-arounds. They can be set up by one person for use in light-duty maintenance applications.

Genie also introduced a 13-foot platform for scissors lifts, which will be written about more in future newsletters.
