Spider, a division of SafeWorks LLC, will supply a complete façade maintenance system for the new Bank of America building in midtown Manhattan.

The building will incorporate environmental techniques such as a water-conservation system using rain runoff and gray water recycling, wind turbines, and co-generation of power and cooling. The 2.1 million square-foot, 54-story crystalline skyscraper will require several custom designed solutions to maintain the building’s exterior.

Spider’s permanent installation experts have developed three custom-designed, crane-style roof machines placed on separate roof elevations and equipped with horizontal and vertical telescopic features enabling reaches in excess of 90 feet and 25 feet, respectively. To ensure complete exterior access, Spider davits and sockets with self-powered platforms will ring the lower podium elevations.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2008.

Based in Tukwila, Wash., SafeWorks is No. 64 on the RER 100.
