After years of double medical bills and travel expenses, the Kubena family of East Bernard, Texas, could not afford to add on space to their tiny home to accommodate their sick daughter’s needs. Thanks to the generosity of the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team, this family received a brand new home to bring them safely together once again under one roof.

Within a six-month period in 2001, 2-year-old Tara and her identical twin sister Sara were diagnosed with the same form of leukemia, an extremely rare circumstance. While Sara’s condition went into remission after undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, Tara suddenly relapsed. For Tara to get better, she must be isolated from her siblings, as children carry germs that could kill her. But, the Kubenas lived in a cramped trailer where Tara shares a room with Sara and their older sister, Kelley. In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, the design team demolished its very first trailer to make room for Tara to recover in.

For this build, NationsRent coordinated with Royce Builders of Houston to deliver the equipment needed to make the Kubena’s dream home possible. Equipment included air compressors, reach fork trucks, skid-steer loaders, Gators, mini-excavators, heaters, fans, rollers, cut-off saws, dozers, scissorlifts, mortar mixers and generators. The NationsRent team even supplied on-site equipment experts to make sure everything ran smoothly for the crew.

Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., NationsRent is No. 6 on the RER 100.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” airs Sundays from 8-9 p.m. ET, on the ABC Television Network.
