GE Energy Rentals is supplying generating equipment for Australia’s electricity grid, the company announced last week. Twelve one-megawatt Jenbacher gas-fired generator sets, four set-up transformers, and an 11 kV switchboard and control room have been installed at the Wilga Park Power Station near Narrabi, New South Wales, Australia.

Under a three-year contract that also includes operation and maintenance, GE provided the equipment to Eastern Star Gas Limited of Sydney, owner of the power station. Natural gas from the Coonarah Gas Field west of Narrabi is being used as the fuel for the power plant.

The project marks the first grid-connected application for GE Energy Rentals in Australia. Eastern Star Gas is dedicated to developing gas reserves for the eastern Australian market, currently appraising known, conventional gas fields in New South Wales, and exploring the coal bed methane potential of brown coal deposits in the eastern Otway area of Victoria.

Atlanta-based GE Energy Rentals is No. 17 on the RER 100.
