John Deere Launches 844 and 904 X-Tier Wheel Loaders for High-Production Applications

New wheel loaders feature electrified drivetrain technology, intelligent controls and fuel-saving modes designed to improve productivity and lower operating costs.

John Deere introduced its new 844 and 904 X-Tier Wheel Loaders, designed for high-production applications that require increased material movement with improved fuel efficiency.

Both models feature electrified drivetrain technology, intelligent machine controls and optional operator awareness features aimed at boosting productivity and overall machine value, according to a company press release.

“Our new X-Tier Wheel Loader models are designed to help customers load faster, carry more, and maintain consistent performance where it matters most,” said Colton Kreber, John Deere’s marketing manager. “Whether they’re working in the pile or loading trucks, they’ll see strong performance, exceptional traction and highly efficient cycles throughout the day.”

The X-Tier models are equipped with John Deere electric variable transmission (EVT), which replaces traditional drivetrain components with an electronically managed power system. According to John Deere, the EVT system delivers smoother operation, faster machine response and improved efficiency compared to P-Tier models.

The electronically managed drivetrain also supports easier operation by enabling single-pedal control and decoupling hydraulic performance from engine speed, helping maintain consistent power while reducing operator input.

John Deere’s new Pile Slip Assist feature is designed to improve traction and bucket fill performance, while larger bucket capacities allow operators to move more material per pass. The company said those enhancements can also help reduce tire wear and maintenance costs.

Both loaders offer two operating modes intended to maximize efficiency without sacrificing performance. Standard Mode is designed to reduce fuel consumption by 15% while Performance Mode increases productivity by 5% for demanding applications. According to the company, the dual-mode system can reduce total cost of ownership by 4% compared to previous models.

Optional technology features include the Advanced Vision System (AVS) and Advanced Object Detection. The AVS integrates side- and rear-view camera feeds into a single in-cab display to improve visibility around the machine. Operators can also view projected reverse path lines to better monitor machine movement.

Like other X-Tier machines, the 844 and 904 loaders are supported by John Deere Operations Center, along with remote diagnostics and maintenance plans.
