John Deere plans to unveil its new 40 P-Tier Compact Excavator model at Equip Exposition October 20-23, 2026. The new 40 P-Tier compact excavator delivers the power, hydraulic performance and attachment flexibility customers need in a compact machine. Designed for landscaping, rental, utility and general construction, the 40 P-Tier helps crews take on demanding work while delivering the versatility expected from a compact excavator and the transportability customers need without relying on a commercial driver’s license.

“Operators require equipment that helps them move confidently from task to task, including projects of varying sizes and the new 40 P-Tier Compact Excavator is designed to do just that,” said Emily Pagura, product marketing manager, John Deere. “With exceptional hydraulic performance, expansive attachment options and an intuitive John Deere technology experience, the 40 P-Tier gives operators the control, versatility and efficiency they need to get more done throughout the day.”

Focusing on performance, the 40 P-Tier offers digging capability and lifting performance often associated with larger size class machines, as well as an optional enhancements including a hydraulic pin-grabber coupler, add-on rear view camera, factory-installed thumb, angle blade and auxiliary hydraulic packages. These features offer customers the ability to configure the machine to maximize productivity for the work they perform most frequently.

ME28 mulching head

Expanding jobsite versatility, John Deere also introduces a new 40 P-Tier compatible attachment with the unveiling of the new ME28 mulching head. This powerful land clearing solution is ideal for maintaining rights-of-way, clearing fence lines, and working in tight spaces. Engineered for efficient material processing, the ME28 also features a variable-speed motor, durable rotor design and reversible Cubit knife-style teeth that help maximize productivity and wear life. 

To help operators boost productivity and simplify changing attachments, the 40 P-Tier comes standard with attachment manager technology enabling operators to quickly recall preset hydraulic settings for compatible attachments. This system helps reduce setup time, simplifies attachment changes, and helps operators consistently achieve optimal attachment performance. 

Inside the cab, operators benefit from familiar features carried over from larger models including the John Deere CommandARM, an 8-inch touchscreen display, optional premium Bluetooth radio, integrated electronic pattern changer and available rearview camera. Standard JDLink connectivity provides fleet managers with machine location and health information through John Deere Operations Center, helping improve fleet visibility, equipment utilization and machine uptime. In addition, the 40 P-Tier features easily accessible daily service points and offers cab configurations with heat and air conditioning, premium seating and enhanced storage to further improve operator comfort throughout long workdays.
