Bobcat Co.

Bobcat introduces the 418 zero-tail-swing compact excavator, which replaces the model 316. The 418 features an operating weight of 2,593 pounds and a dig depth of 6 feet. Pilot-operated controls provide consistent, smooth and fluid control of the machine, increasing work efficiency and further reducing the possibility of the excavator coming into contact with buildings or other nearby objects. The operator may also choose between ISO and standard-pattern joystick operation through a control-pattern-selector valve.

Komatsu

Komatsu America introduces the PC35MR-3 compact hydraulic excavator designed to bring increased production and added operator comfort to contractors. Equipped with the latest Komtrax technology, the PC35MR-3 sends machine operating information to a secure website using wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, machine location and fuel levels are relayed to the web application for analysis. For operator comfort, a fully adjustable suspension seat with retractable seatbelt lessens fatigue, and pilot-proportional joystick controls with wrist rests facilitate continuous, comfortable operation.

John Deere

Ranging in size from 3 to 5 metric tons, the new John Deere 35D (pictured) and 50D zero-tail-swing compact excavators provide reduced cycle times; better comfort with updated controls and cab; and lower operating costs with the introduction of auto-idle and longer oil-change intervals. A new, long arm and heavy counterweight option provides an additional foot of dig depth and reach. Automatic shifting between high and low travel speeds allows the machine to automatically shift into low when more power is needed. The operator's station is 5 inches wider and features repositioned control levers and monitor for improved visibility.

Takeuchi

Takeuchi introduces the TB138FR zero-tail-swing model to its line of excavators. It features a patented side-to-side offset boom system combined with a zero-tail swing that allows the machine to turn 360 degrees. A low center of gravity offers the stability and craning capabilities of conventional excavators and the added functionality of working in confined areas. A tilt-up operator's platform combined with a full-opening engine compartment offers quick access for service and maintenance. An electrohydraulic push-button and proportional slide switch located in the left-hand joystick ensure precise control of the auxiliary hydraulic circuit.

New Holland

Whether digging footers, ripping up concrete or performing general excavating work in tight spaces, New Holland compact excavators offer standard auxiliary hydraulics and a pattern-control changer. All five models — the E15, E27, E30, E35 and E50 — feature an independent boom-swing mechanism. One pump is dedicated to the swing circuit, which enables simultaneous operation of the boom, arm or bucket without any effect on swing operation. The models range from 3,240 to 10,275 pounds, and produce from 11.9 to 40.8 net hp.

Kubota

The KX080-3 mini-excavator features Kubota's load-sensing hydraulic system engineered for smoother handling regardless of load size. The system also allows the operator to perform simultaneous operations such as dozing and utilizing front attachments without losing speed. For optimal fuel savings, an auto-idle system reduces engine rpm instinctively when high engine speed isn't needed. When the control levers are in neutral for more than 4 seconds, the engine rpm automatically idles. Move any control lever and the engine rpm immediately returns.

Caterpillar

Three D-Series mini hydraulic excavators join the Caterpillar line. The 307D is a direct replacement for the 307C. The 308D CR (pictured), a compact-radius machine that works productively in tight spaces, replaces the 308C CR. A new model, the 308D CR SB, combines the compact-radius design with a swing boom for more versatility. The new models outperform their predecessors with 22-percent higher bucket forces and 10-percent higher stick forces. Lift capacity has been increased with the addition of a larger counterweight, and a 15-percent increase in traction forces improves dozing and turning performance. A new turbocharged 54-hp Mitsubishi 4M40TL engine that meets Tier-4 emissions regulations powers each model.
