Western Pennsylvania Caterpillar dealer Cleveland Brothers has partnered with the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI) to offer two elite students a sponsorship and job opportunity, Cleveland Brothers’ website reports. The Natural Gas Compression program is one of only two in the nation and provides graduating students with a two-year degree and Cat engine and Ariel compressor training certifications.
Together, Cleveland Brothers and CPI created this program to prepare students adequately for work in the gas compression industry. The program teaches students how to troubleshoot, rebuild and repair engines and compressors in a gas compression skid. In addition to extensive rebuilds, students stimulate the well head to effectively troubleshoot and conduct extensive electrical work to the donated engines and compressors. Students gain both in-shop and in-field experience and have taken field trips to gas compression station sites for more hands-on learning.
After careful consideration, the sponsorship and job opportunities were awarded to and accepted by Gunther Hoffman and Matthew Caldana. Both Hoffman and Caldana were hand selected because of their talents, skill, discipline and dedication to the program, and will make great additions to Cleveland Brothers.
Both Hoffman and Caldana have excelled in the program and look forward to the future. While Hoffman is excited to “work for a great company doing what I love,” he also noted a favorite quote of his by soccer legend Pelé, which helped drive him: “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, the love of what you are doing.”
Caldana, a volunteer firefighter who grew up around engines his entire life, said, “I love waking up in the morning and knowing I get to work on engines for one of the biggest dealers in the world.”
Both Hoffman and Caldana are top students in their class and will complete their education at CPI in Aug. 2020. Shortly after, they will join the Cleveland Brothers team as technicians. Cleveland Brothers and CPI work hard to invest in the future generation of technicians and look forward to continuing their successful partnership together.
