Responding to operators’ needs for additional access at height, the new Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for Z articulating booms, S telescopic booms and GS-1930 scissor lifts provides operators with a secondary surface to work from, elevating them 22 inches (0.56 m) above the platform floor. This new Genie accessory for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) is ANSI-compliant and is currently available in the United States. It will be available in Canada and select areas of Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia (EMEAR) in the future, pending CSA and CE certification and country-specific regulations approval.
“Aerial jobsites often require access into space-restrictive areas to carry out work,” says Marie Engstrom, Genie Product Manager, Terex AWP, “including between HVAC system components, trusses, dropped ceilings, plumbing and other structures. Often, a MEWPs’ platform is too large to access these areas, and this limitation can result in operators not being able to access their work. The Genie Lift Tools Access Deck provides operators with a secondary surface to work from, enabling them to access restricted spaces safely to increase productively working at height.”
Rated for both indoor and outdoor use and engineered with non-slip decking on a wide, stable surface for use at height, this accessory is ideal for use in HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing and welding applications, as well as between rafters or other structures at height. Attached to the platform rails, this additional access solution enables operators to get into restricted spaces safely and increases productivity.
Providing more than 3 square feet of additional work area in the platform, the Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for booms is designed for use on jobsites where operators in a standard boom platform cannot reach their work. To accommodate a variety of operators, this additional deck has a 300-pound (136 kg) capacity. It comes with a handle that provides operators with three points of contact when working at height. The handle can be folded out of the way when not needed in the work area.
It can be installed on the midrail on 8-foot Genie boom platforms and used on either end of the platform, accessing hard-to-reach areas. The Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for 6-foot boom platforms will be available in the future.
The Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for booms compatible new production machines, as well as many units equipped with side swing gate and tri-entry platforms already working in the field. On some models, it can be outfitted on machines dating back to 2002.
Many jobsites require operators to access restricted areas above or beyond where a scissor lift’s platform can reach, and standing on platform’s guardrails, or using custom attachments to climb above the platform floor, violates OSHA safety regulations. The Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for scissor lifts provides operators with a secondary surface to elevate them above the platform floor for a productive solution to access hard-to-reach areas.
This additional deck has a 225-pound (102 kg) capacity, and installs to the inside of the extension deck guardrails on Genie GS-1930 scissor lift platforms, with additional model compatibility in the future. It is designed with a collapsible guardrail to ensure uninhibited maneuverability for operators using this new accessory.
The Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for scissor lifts is currently compatible with 19-foot new production machines, as well as many units already working in the field — it can be outfitted on Genie GS-1930 models dating back to 2009.
For best practices in safe use, only one Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for booms and scissor lifts can be used per platform, and PFPE is required while using the Genie Lift Tools Access Deck. Employers will need to determine what type of personal fall protection is appropriate for the site and conditions prior to using this new accessory, and they may need to make extra considerations for the Genie Lift Tools Access Deck, including the height of the operators. Existing lanyard attachment points in the platform must be used.
The Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for booms weighs approximately 27 pounds, and the new deck for scissor lifts weighs approximately 25 pounds (11 kg). Both accessories are light enough for one person to carry, and can be installed by one person, without any tools, in less than 5 minutes. The design of the Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for booms incorporates one T-handle and a locking pin that positively lock the deck in place. The handle can be installed with four bolts by one person in approximately five minutes.
When not in use, the new Genie Lift Tools Access Deck for booms and scissor lifts folds flat for storage.
