At the recent Bauma China exhibition in Shanghai, Sinoboom showcased new boom lift steering technology designed to enhance maneuverability in tight spaces and on a variety of terrain. Each of the lift’s four wheels is controlled by an independent motor capable of positive and negative torque output, enabling autonomous driving and braking of each wheel. Maneuvering the equipment around tight angles and through narrow spaces is enhanced, making travel around complex worksites more efficient.

The operator can choose between two modes:

The “Tank Turn” mode enables the whole boom lift to make complete 360° turns, thanks to the unique four-wheel independent control system. In conjunction with the precise operation of the lifting and boom movement functions, this substantially expands the machine’s flexibility in restricted workspaces.

The Simulated Four-wheel Steering mode provides performance comparable to four-wheel steering, but at the same cost as two-wheel steering. Smooth, effortless and precise rotation on challenging high-traction surfaces such as gravel or concrete is possible, expanding the machine’s suitability for a wide range of working scenarios.

Peter Peng, head of Sinoboom's product planning department said, “With construction sites becoming ever more complex, our customers’ needs for machines that have the flexibility to move around them easily is growing steadily. This technology allows operators to move the boom lift to the ideal workspace more easily, and therefore complete their tasks more quickly, with the result that work overall is more efficient. This is a clear benefit for contractors and fleet managers alike.”

This technology is currently available on the electric-powered AB16EJ Plus articulating boom lift. Further roll-outs to additional models will follow, the company said.
