MacAllister Machinery Co. was recently awarded the 2003 Ernst & Young Indiana Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the retail category. Indianapolis, Ind.-based MacAllister, the Caterpillar dealer for most of Indiana, was recognized for its innovative approaches to growing its business during tough economic times.

In recent years, MacAllister has opened six MacAllister Rental and Supply locations to complement its traditional equipment business. To accelerate its entry into the landscape and smaller horsepower equipment markets, MacAllister purchased the Kubota dealership on the south side of Indianapolis in early 2002. The company acquired three more Kubota locations in 2003 and has expanded its Caterpillar line of smaller equipment geared towards those customers.

MacAllister’s engine power business received Caterpillar’s Dealer Excellence Award for the fifth consecutive year. In a survey conducted by Caterpillar in 2001, MacAllister Machinery had the highest customer satisfaction rating in North America.

The company is run by Chris MacAllister, the third generation of his family to run the business his grandfather founded in 1945.
