HSS Hire Services, one of the United Kingdom’s largest equipment rental companies, has acquired Apex Generators, a Scottish rental company, from owners Nevis Capital.
The acquisition will support HSS’ existing specialist power division, which includes its Abird business. It enables the division to cover a wider territory and gives both Abird and Apex greater ability to fulfill national power solution contracts.
Apex Generators has a strong market position throughout Scotland as an experienced generator hire specialist with a customer base in construction, home-building, events, industrial, marine and offshore sectors. HSS plans to retain the Apex brand and invest in the business, including the installation of its “RFM Smart Equipment” technology on the Apex fleet.

The transaction is the latest in a series of acquisitions by HSS Hire:
- November 2013: Acquired TecServ, specialist asset management service provider for companies operating in the cleaning sector;
- September 2013: Acquired the Irish division of Mobile Traffic Solutions, specialist provider of traffic management equipment, from Dublin-based Rennick’s Group;
- June 2013: Acquired UK Platforms, powered access specialist from Haulotte Group;
- October 2012: Acquired Abird Generator Hire, one of the U.K.’s leading diesel electric generator hire companies.
