Craig Paylor, a well-known personality in the access industry and former president of JLG Industries, will deliver the keynote address at the Europlatform conference being held on Sept. 16, at the Hotel Eurostars Madrid Tower in Spain. The theme of the conference is “Renting Smart: Efficient Fleet Management.”

“My presentation will focus on the differences between today’s distributors, manufacturers or rental companies and those of the future,” said Craig Paylor, who had a distinguished 28-year career with JLG, retiring as president of the company last week, though he will remain engaged with JLG as a consultant.

The one-day conference is dedicated to access rental management issues and is targeted at senior management. It is jointly organized by the International Powered Access Federation and its official magazine Access International.

Other speakers include Carlos Fernández Araoz, chief operating officer of General de Alquiler de Maquinaria, the largest equipment rental company in Spain, who will speak on “Managing the Downturn,” and Nick Mavrick from Volvo Rents, who will cover innovative marketing tools in his presentation, “Smart Marketing and Managing Customer Relationships.”

George Marriott, managing director of Access Plus in the U.K., will speak on “Leveraging IT to be Efficient.” Malcolm Bowers, director of Lifterz, and Oliwer Sven Dahms, a partner with LiftScout Consulting, will discuss “The Benefits of Rental Alliances.”

In addition to these speakers, there will be a panel discussion, with participants answering questions from the audience. The panel includes IPAF president and president of Skyjack, Steve Shaughnessy.

The conference will be held in English, with simultaneous translation in German, Italian and Spanish. A reception will take place on the evening of Sept. 16, immediately after the conference. All delegates are invited to join the speakers and organizers for aperitifs. The provisional program and details on registration and getting to the venue are at www.europlatform.info.

The Europlatform conference is followed by the ELEVarte show taking place Sept. 17-18 in Madrid near the Europlatform venue. ELEVarte is a new initiative designed to let visitors experience powered access in a relaxed environment.

IPAF is a not-for-profit members’ organization that promotes the safe and effective use of powered access equipment worldwide. Members include rental companies, manufacturers, distributors and equipment owners. For more information, visit www.ipaf.org.
